SAN CLEMENTE (1st century - 6th century)

San Clemente, Rome
 
  The Basilica of San Clemente is a complex of building in Rome  
  covering a period which goes from the Christian era to the  
  Middle Ages. The church was trasformed over the centuries  
  from a private home owned by Roman consul Titus Flavius  
  Clemens, to a public Basilica by the 6th century.

  SANTA MARIA IN COSMEDIN (6th century)
Santa Maria in Cosmedin, Rome
 
  The church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin was built in the  
  6th century over the remains of the Templum Herculis Pompeiani  
  in the Forum Boarium.  
  Since it was located near many Byzantine structures,  
  in the 7th century this church was called de schola Graeca  
  and a close street is still called della greca.

  SANTA MARIA IN ARACOELI (574)
Santa Maria in Aracoeli, Rome
 
  The church of Santa Maria in Aracoeli is on the highest  
  summit of the Campidoglio.  
  The original name of the church was Santa Maria in Campidoglio.  
  The foundation of the church was laid on the site of a Byzantine  
  abbey mentioned in 574.

  SS. QUATTRO CORONATI (4th century - 5th century)
Santissimi Quattro Coronati, Rome
 
     
  The church of SS. Qattro Coronati (it means "Sts. Four  
  Crowned") was built by Pope Miltiades, in the fourth century, on  
  the north side of the Coelian Hill.  
  It was one of the first churches of Rome, bearing the Titulus  
  Aemilianae from the name of the foudress, who probably owned  
  the elaborate Roman villa present under the church.

  SAN LUIGI DEI FRANCESI (1518 - 1589)
San Luigi dei Francesi, Rome
 
  The church was designed by Giacomo della Porta and built  
  by Domenico Fontana between 1518 and 1589.  
  The church was chosen as the place of sepulture for the higher  
  prelates and members of the French commubnity of Rome.  
  The church's most famous item is however the cycle of paintings  
  in the Contarelli Chapel , painted by the Baroque master  
  Caravaggio in 1599 - 1600 about the life of St. Matthew .

  SANT'ANDREA DELLA VALLE (1590 - 1650)
Sant'Andrea della Valle, Rome
  The church Sant'Andrea della Valle was designed and build by
  Pier Paolo Olivieri , Francesco Grimaldi , and Carlo Maderno
  between 1590 in 1650 .
  The church contains paintings by Caravaggio, Lanfranco and
  sculptures by Pietro Bernini ( Gianlorenzo Bernini 's father).
