The Basilica of San Clemente is a complex of building in Rome |

covering a period which goes from the Christian era to the |

Middle Ages. The church was trasformed over the centuries |
|
| |
from a private home owned by Roman consul Titus Flavius |
|
| |
Clemens, to a public Basilica by the 6th century. |
|

The church of Santa Maria in Cosmedin was built in the |

6th century over the remains of the Templum Herculis Pompeiani |

The church of SS. Qattro Coronati (it means "Sts. Four |

Crowned") was built by Pope Miltiades, in the fourth century, on |

It was one of the first churches of Rome, bearing the Titulus |

Aemilianae from the name of the foudress, who probably owned |

the elaborate Roman villa present under the church. |
